Simple Steps to Break Free from Spring Temptation

Just when we thought we were finished with the indulgence of holiday eating, drinking and traveling… and poof! Another holiday is upon us.

As we are making our 2nd round of New Year’s Resolutions (c’mon be honest!) so we could be bikini ready by the ever impending SUMMER, once again we are surrounded by candy even chocolate parading as cleverly cute innocent bunnies, delicious carrot cake, and big meals with family!

  1. What you don’t see you won’t eat. Kick Temptation to the curb. Generously give away leftovers. Do not buy lots of candy. Do not eat kids leftovers. Remember, throwing away is OK! After all, you are not a trash can. Your slimmer self will thank you when you try on swimsuits.
  2. Spring into Action. Enjoy spring weather, walk more. Reach for 10,000 steps a day.
  3. Make a Smoothie of your favorite dessert! (Oh no She didn’t?! ) Carrot Cake is one of my favorite desserts. And why not, after all, it does have a vegetable in the name. That counts for something good right?

A Veggie in The Name, Isn’t Quite The Same!

Unfortunately, a slice of a traditional 9-inch, two-layer carrot cake with cream cheese frosting can contain as many as 854 calories (uh, for most of us that is more than half of our daily needed!). Even a slice of the single-layer version of carrot cake is 670 calories, (half of daily needed). Sadly, with all the sugar, oil and eggs in the recipe, half of this calories come directly from fat. Not sure about you, but fat sticks to me like glue!

You CAN cut the calories and the fat. All while enjoying the pleasure of your most decadent dessert minus the pain of wasted calories and guilt!

Carrot Cake Smoothie

3-4 baby carrots OR 1 Cup shredded carrots

2 scoops Vanilla Protein
(I choose Non GMO, gluten free, dairy free, all natural Shaklee Life Shake)

1/2 cup frozen banana or frozen pineapple

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract

1/2 tsp. Cinnamon

handful of ice (optional)

306 calories, 40 g carbs, 20 g protein, 7 g fat, 11 g fiber, 0 mg chol, 480 mg sodium
