My Comic Relief

My Comic Relief

Feeling a bit down, needing a rush of energy? STOP, don’t reach for that sugar boost, it is time for a little fun! We have all heard the saying laughter is the best medicine.

As noted by The Mayo Clinic, Laughter goes a long way with short-term benefits such as inducing physical changes like enhancing oxygen intake, stimulating your heart, lungs, and muscles not to mention activating and relieving stress responses. The icing on the cake is that its effects that can improve your immune system, reduce pain and put you in a much happier mood.

Fitting in more laughter into our lives and the lives of those around us is simpler than you think. For starters we can take ourselves a lot less serious. As an entrepreneur that is not exactly the easiest of tasks. Being your own boss is not without its share of deadlines, to-do lists, and overall hefty workload. I have personally found that when the stress sneaks it’s way in and steals my smile it is time for a little intervention!

My best medicine is to find something humorous about myself. Luckily for me, there is an abundance of topics to choose from, and that isn’t so hard to do. Like the time I became comically annoyed because I was hosting a live webinar and the dogs, the kids, and the doorbell synchronized a symphony of their very own! OK maybe I couldn’t exactly laugh back then but fast forward and that one crazy lady scenario brings a smile to me every time. Laughing at that memory also allows the tension of that memory to be replaced with gratefulness because I was home that day to hear that “now” beautiful symphony. How fortunate I was to be home with my family to experience that “now” glorious harmony.

Try it out for yourself, or put it in your back pocket for a future time. Laughter goes a long way, and besides that, it is simply a lot of fun!
