“As a young woman Pat Torres believed she’d live a regular life as a wife and mother. But, Pat ‘s life didn’t go the way it was supposed to. She found herself a single mother of two with no support. Then, she had to face the fact that her younger child was dealing with some very difficult issues. But, when she became aware and accepted them, she rose to the challenge and brought forth her great strength.
Her strong love for her children gave her the aggressiveness required to seek and demand help for her child. Pat was constantly meeting with her child’s teachers, counselors, and administrators to ensure he was given every opportunity available to succeed. Needless to say, these meetings created a problem with Pat’s work. But she persevered as long as she could. She continues the battle for her child’s place in this world, even as she now helps in the raising of her little granddaughter.
I look at Pat and all I see is Strength, Love, fierce Determination and Persistence and a woman who has NEVER given up or backed down. She’s a strong Mom.”

“I haven’t always appreciated my mother, we are very different. Lorna is a free spirit who lives in the moment and always leads with her heart. She is purple lipstick, red boots, and huge earrings. She is an abstract art piece meant to be admired but never fully understood. Me on the other hand, I am clear gloss, black flats, simple studs with a detailed spreadsheet for every decision.
Growing up I never imagined how much the way she viewed the world would shape me and the decisions I would eventually make. Her guiding principal was “buy the outfit so the occasion will present itself.” Her advice to my siblings and me was always “do what you love and the money will follow.” Watching her study and struggle to get her nursing degree with 3 little kids at home taught me anything was possible if you believed it so and were willing to work hard. Watching her encourage the uniqueness in each of her children taught me to look for the beauty in everyone.
Mom, your whimsical spirit has inspired me to tenaciously pursue a career that I love and take risks in life even when the numbers don’t add up. Love you infinity!”
