There are oodles of cosmetics devoted to helping you get your glow on, from highlighters to primers, and everything in between. But before layering additional product on your face, be sure you are doing all you can to get a natural glow that money can’t buy. Check out our five favorite tips that you can do today to achieve a glow that is red carpet worthy.
1. H2O basics
In colder months, it can be easy to fall out of routines of getting our minimum eight glasses of water per day. Isaac Eliaz, MD shares “Proper hydration helps clear the body of toxins that cause inflammation and blemishes. Water also helps transport nutrients and oxygen to skin cells, preventing dehydration and protecting against premature aging. Increased hydration can lead to noticeable improvements in skin appearance and energy levels in just a few days.”
2. Give your face a rest
Our heads are not the only thing at night that needs clearing before getting a good night’s sleep. Be sure to give your face the same chance. Makeup residue prevents pores from their needed cleansing, resulting in larger more noticeable pores.
But makeup isn’t the only thing that deprives our skin of its ability to rejuvenate and refresh during the sleeping hours. All the daily pollutants mask your face as well, causing premature aging.
3. Cleanse with care
Too often cleansing routines involve scrubbing and products that strip the natural moisture from our skin. Leaving our faces dry and tight. Cleansing creams are an excellent choice to get the job done. Oily skin? Oil fights oil, and your once rinsed clean, your face is fresh and pampered.
4. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
Enough said!
5. Makeup Brush Hygiene
A British study found that 72% of women never wash their brushes or sponges, even though they collect dirt and bacteria which can cause breakouts – not what you want when you’re trying to get better skin. “You should wash loose powder brushes every two to three weeks, and those used to apply foundation once a week,” says Jessica Wu, an LA-based dermatologist, and author of Feed Your Face. Mix a couple of drops of gentle facial cleanser or shampoo and lukewarm water in a cup, swish your brushes around, rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry, and lay flat to air dry.
Cheers to your glow,
